Abstract

This chapter begins with an overview of the 150-year history of teacher education in the Faroe Islands. The quality of the current teacher education programme is assessed on basis of five distinct indicators: (1) recruitment, (2) academicazation, (3) pitfalls, (4) resilience and (5) competence. These five gauges are often assessed separately in teacher education research; however, to gain an adequate understanding of the quality and relevance of teacher education in the twentyfirst century, they must be examined together. Finally, the article reflects on the future of teacher education in the Faroe Islands.
