Abstract

Carrier phase GPS has traditionally been associated with static surveying, sometimes requiring long data spans and post processing. However, the advent of real time On The Fly (OTF) kinematic GPS means that carrier phase technology may now be used for dynamic applications. The paper will outline the recent advances in GPS technology, which have enabled real time OTF kinematic GPS to become a reality. Tests have been carried, using real time OTF kinematic GPS for construction plant control and monitoring to a precision of the order of a few millimetres. The results are compared with those achieved using a laser level and a digital automatic level.
