Abstract
This chapter explores the use of Place-Based Education (PBE) in an international context, namely a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) for student teachers. The aim of PBE, designed to foster local engagement, shifts when used in an international context. Using thematic analysis, we found that PBE encouraged student teachers to 1) engage in a community’s issues, 2) relate local issues to global concerns, 3) apply theory to actual situations, and 4) see PBE as a resource for their future teaching practice. Using PBE in an international context also highlighted the need of integrating critical perspectives and thinking in PBE.
