Abstract

This paper provides a theoretical exploration of how design research methodology can translate insights from PISA assessments and implementation research into actionable classroom practices in the Faroe Islands. In response to declining PISA results, the study develops humble design principles aimed at enhancing mathematical formulation skills and the use of digital tools, while integrating Communities of Practice (CoPs) into the design to foster teacher collaboration, professional development, and sustainable implementation. This collaborative approach is designed to positively influence the ecological disruption described in implementation research, facilitating the modification and integration of interventions in alignment with the designers’ goals. The findings aim to support national scaling but also to provide broader insights into design research implementation processes in mathematics education.
