Í yvirlitinum eru tilsamans 5.136 harur skrásettar at vera skotnar í Føroyum í 2018.
Kanningin byggir á tøl frá tilsamans 749 harutúrum í 281 hagapørtum kring landið. Helvtin av harunum vórðu skotar í 45 hagapørtum, av hesum vórðu 1.335 harur (25%), skotnar í 17 hagapørtum. Í 20 teimum bestu haruhøgunum skutu teir tilsamans 1.457 harur, sum er 28% av samlaðu veiðuni í Føroyum í 2018.
Raskastu at skjóta harur í Føroyum í 2018 vóru teir, sum skutu í skutu í Kvíggjarhamarshaga í Saksun.
Mett verður, at í 2018 skutu umleið 900 ymiskir mans harur í Føroyum. Hetta talið er tað sama sum í 2017, men hægri enn í 2016. Tá vísti saman roknistykkið, at 700 mans skutu harur í Føroyum. Fyri 2015 vísti sama roknistykkið, at 800 mans skutu harur, í 2014 1.222 mans og í 2013 skutu 1.044 mans harur í Føroyum.

Summary (in English)
This is the seventh yearly census of hares hunted in the Faroe Islands. The hunting season is from 2 November to 31 December. The first census was conducted in 2012.
The survey is based on data collected through the webpage “haran.fo”, which was created for this purpose. The investigation is based on information from 749 distinct hunting expeditions carried out in 281 outfields covering most of the Faroe Islands.
In the present overview, 5,136 hares are registered as shot in the Faroe Islands. Based on this, I estimate the total number of hunted hares as being around 5,400 animals in 2018.
Half of the hares were shot in 45 outfields. Half of these, i.e. 1,335 hares, where shot in 17 of the best outfields. In the 20 best hunting fields, a total of 1,457 hares were shot, corresponding to 28% of the hunted hares.
The most successful hare-hunters in the Faroe Islands in 2018 were those from the outfield ‘Kvíggjarhamarshaga’ belonging to the village Saksun. In total, they shot 123 hares in 6 trips. In second place were those from ‘“Skálatoftahaga” ’, on the islands of Borðoy, with 102 hares in total in 6 trips. Number three were those from ‘Suðurhelvt’ in village Eiði. They shot 96 hares in 10 hunting expeditions.
However, if the hunting statistics are adjusted by the number of trips and shots, then the top-3 list changes. Then the field ‘Bergið’, belonging to the village Árnafjørður was the most successful. In this field a man shot 27 hares in a single trip. Number two would be the field ‘Fyri oman Rætt - Fjallið’, belonging to the village of Gjógv, where the average outcome was 7.5 hares per gun per day. Number three was the field ‘Áarhagi – Heimanfyri’ in village Kaldbak, where a single man shot 7 hares in one day.
Overall, 2.79 hares where shot per gun per day in the Faroe Islands in 2018. This is less than in 2017, when 3.18 hares were shot per gun per day, but more than in 2016 and 2015, when they got 2.38 and 2.36 hares per gun per day, respectively. In 2014 and 2013, 3.1 and 2.9 hares were shot per gun per day.
Most of the hares were shot on the island of Streymoy with a total of 2,011, corresponding to 39% of the hunted hares in the Faroe Islands in 2018. On the island Vágar, 1,027 hares were shot, 929 on Eysturoy and 418 hares on the island of Borðoy.
The village Vestmanna on the island Streymoy is, as in the previous years, the place where most hares were shot in 2018. In total, they shot 436 hares on 44 trips.
On the first hunting day (Friday 2th November) 1.027 hares were shot in 66 fields. On the first Saturday, 3th November, 137 hares were shot in 16 fields.
During the 714 individual hunting trips in 2018, the hunting success ranged from 0 to 80 hares on each trip. The most common success rate was between 1 and 4 hares on a single day. Over the whole season, 7.02 hares were shot on an average a trip. This is less than in 2017, when they shot 8.14 in average in a day but somewhat more than both in 2016 and 2015, when on average 6.40 and 6.23 hares were obtained per trip, respectively. In 2014 and 2013, they shot 8.12 and 8.2 hares on average during each trip, respectively.
The number of hunters on a trip ranged from 1 to 17. On half of the trips (the median), an average of 2.0 or fewer hunters participated, In 271 cases (38%), the hunter was alone.
Only men hunt hares in the Faroe Islands. It is estimated that approximately 900 distinct hunters participated in hare-hunting in the Faroe Islands in 2018, corresponding to around 4% of the male population.
The last 50 pages of this report descript the past history of ptarmigan and red grouse in the Faroe Islands.
