Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The article presents a transcription of the handwritten report on the inspection of all the 39 church buildings in the Faroe Islands from 1729, carried out by the vice dean on the Zealand’s bishop’s order. Thanks to the Faroese climate and the scarcity of material, the lifetime of these stone- and wooden building was limited to 50-100 years. Since most of the churches inspected in 1729 have been replaced by new buildings, this thorough report probably is the best information available on the early modern Faroese village church.
