Abstract

Available hydrographic data are used to demonstrate the existence of eddies and meanders related to the polar front in the Iceland-Faroe Ridge area. The data are not sufficient to investigate the kinematics and the dynamics of the eddies, which are important for the overflow of arctic water and for the temperatur conditions over the Faroe shelf. The first results of an attempt to overcome the lack of proper data sets are discussed.
