Abstract
A new feather mite species Ingrassia lymnocrypti sp. n. is described from the Jacksnipe,
Lymnocryptes minimus (Brünnich), collected in Faroe Islands. The new species is close to I.
limnodromi Vasyukova and Mironov, 1986 and readily differs from the latter in having the
much longer terminal projections of interlobar membrane in males, and the shorter length
of dorsal setae c2 and smaller size of the hysteronotal shield in females. A checklist with
host associations of mite species of the genus Ingrassia is compiled. It is concluded that the
fauna of the genus Ingrassia on charadriiforms is studied relatively well, while diversity
of these mites on other host orders is known quite superficially. Comparison of the feather
mite faunas known on different selected species of the tribe Scolopacini (dowitchers,
snipes and woodcocks) shows that bird species of this tribe demonstrate a gradual loss of
the primary feather mite fauna specific to the family Scolopacidae (Charadriiformes) and
even its substitution with mites transferred from another host order.
