Heildartiltakið 2026 – A Nationwide School Development Initiative in the Faroe Islands

Heildartiltakið 2026 was a nationwide school development initiative organised in collaboration between Nám – The Faroese Educational Resource Centre and the Faculty of Education at the University of the Faroe Islands. The initiative aimed to advance professional expertise, well-being, and learning within inclusive learning communities across the Faroese compulsory school.

The Faculty of Education was responsible for the academic and research-based programme, developed and delivered by Frida Poulsen, Hans Harryson, Birita Poulsen, Rúna í Skála, and Anna Eikholm. The programme was grounded in educational research and Faroese context.

The initiative was carried out as a national professional tour across eight schools over eight days, engaging educators and school professionals from across the country. Activities included plenary lecture by Frida Poulsen "The professional in a changing time" and four thematic workshops addressing: (1) The teaching profession in a time of change, Hans Harryson (2) Relational competence and classroom leadership, Rúna í Skála (3) The transition from the Two-Teacher Classroom to co-teaching, Birita Poulsen and (4) Inclusive special education, Anna Eikholm og Frida Poulsen.

The overall purpose was to strengthen connections between research and school practice and to support collective professional development across the Faroese school system.
