Changes in Faroese Dialects

Project Details

Description

We have recorded informants from three age groups (young, middle-age and old) from Vágar, Eiði, Tórshavn, Klaksvík, Viðareiði, Tvøroyri and other villages in Suðuroy. The areas are North-West Faroese (Vágar, Eiði) and central Faroese (Tórshavn). The question is: do speaker accommodate their speech to the dialect of the capital Tórshavn? The same question is for Northern Faroese. Do speakers from Viðareiði accommodate to Klaksvík, and in Suðuroy: is there accommodation to the dialect spoken in Tvøroyri.
