Research interests

Description of research

During and since her university education Marin has focused on epidemiological methods, the main subject of her research being maternal mental health and children’s neurodevelopment in relation to exposures exerting their effect during fetal life. During the last decade she has been professionally involved in epidemiology, and has undertaken large complex epidemiological analyses coupling questionnaire data from some of the large prospective Danish cohort studies with registry data concerning health and development of both mothers and children.

Overview

Marin is engaged in a series of studies investigating the role of nutrition and other environmental exposures early in life in health and development through childhood, youth and adult life. Recently, she has taken on research into nutritional exposures in the Faroe Islands; an area that has been overlooked for decades, and where knowledge is needed. Furthermore, a grant from the Health Insurance Fund in 2019 will be instrumental in joining in healthy aging in a lifecourse perspective as a new area of research.

Marin has a secondary affiliation as senior researcher at the Department for Epidemiology Research at Statens Serum Institut, where she engages in many different projects related to nutrition, physical activity and environmental exposures in relation to health and development.

Teaching

Marin has planned, organised and taught courses at Bachelor, Master and PhD level at the University of Copenhagen and the University of the Faroe Islands. Her teaching includes several topics related to public health, in particular epidemiology, statistics, social inequality in health, health promotion and disease prevention.

Supervision of students

As a scientific supervisor she has had the main responsibility for several Master students and PhD students, with more to come
