Dr. Kalpana Vijayavarathan-R is an Associate Professor in TEFL and Educational Sciences and serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Education at the University of the Faroe Islands. Teaching

Dr. Vijayavarathan-R began her academic career at Women’s Christian College, affiliated with the University of Madras, India (1986–1989), where she taught General English, English Poetry, Creative Writing, History of the English Language and Linguistics, and Journalism & Mass Communication.

At the University of the Faroe Islands, her teaching has centered on TEFL, University Pedagogy, Organisation and Leadership, and Faroese as a Second Language. She has led multiple teacher development courses for primary, secondary, and upper secondary educators in TEFL, Assessment & Feedback, and Teacher Cognition. Additionally, she has supervised numerous bachelor’s theses and is currently co-supervising two PhD projects.

Professional Information

Dr. Vijayavarathan-R is an active member of the UArctic Thematic Network on Teacher Education for Social Justice and Diversity in Education. She has successfully managed both local and international education projects, furthering research and policy initiatives in the field.
