Research interests

Sociolinguistics, dialectology, lexicography, terminology, language history, and purism. My main research interests are sociolinguistics and language variation in spoken Faroese, especially in dialects. My doctoral thesis was a sociolinguistic study on attitudes to foreign words and neologisms in Faroese. Concerning lexicography, I am responsible for updating the monolingual Faroese dictionary. The interest in purism resulted in a book Føroysk purisma – føroysk orð ella orð í føroyskum? ‘Faroese purism – Faroese words or words in Faroese? (2021).

Teaching

Mainly in sociolinguistics, lexicography, and dialectology on the optional part of the education on MA- and BA-level in Faroese, and language history in the compulsory part on BA-level at the Institute of Faroese. For some years, I have been a visiting teacher at the University of Bergen in Faroese purism as part of courses in Nordic purism.
