Research interests

With an academic and vocational backgound in several areas of the educational field, Frida has particual interest in school policy and school practice. Her main focus and interest is in inclusive education an special needs education. Her PhD thesis focused on exploring the development of inclusive education in the Faroese public school from political vision to practice. The study used Situational Analysis as its theoretical and methodological framework and involved interviewing 97 actors in the Faroese school system and analysing school policy documents. The study aimed to understand how the global vision of inclusion is transferred, translated and transformed in the local environment of the Faroe Islands as a very small society.

 

Personal profile

Frida Poulsen is employed as the Deputy Dean and programme leader for the Teacher's Education. Frida Poulsen holds a PhD in Educational Sciences, a Master degree in Educational Psychology, a BA in Political Sciences and is former educated as a School Teacher. Frida Poulsen has also a background as Reading Counsellor and has taken several suplemtentary courses within the educational field and in leadership and management. 

Prior to her employment at the University of the Faroe Islands, she had a long career within different areas of the educational field. E.g. as a Senior Principal in the Faroese Ministry of Education, as constituted academic manager in Sernám (PPR). During her time at the Ministry she has set up, participated, prepared and led many projects concerning the current and future field of education in the Faroe Islands. Frida Poulsen has also a background as school teacher for several years in the Faroese public school.

Teaching

At the Universtiy of the Faroe Islands, Frida has taught and supervised students in several courses in the Teachers' Education. Currently she leads and teaches in an additional course for employed teachers and pedagogougs in Special Needs Education.

From 2002 - 2012 Frida worked as a school teacher in the Faroese public school.
