Bergur Djurhuus Hansen is Dean and Associate Professor of Literature at the Faculty of Language and Literature (Føroyamálsdeildin). He started teaching Literary Analysis and Method as a part time teacher in 2007. He was made Assistant Professor in 2012, Associate Professor in 2016, and appointed Dean in 2017. He was Prorector for Education and Quality 2020-2022.
Research interests
With a background in comparative literature from the University of Aarhus, Denmark, Bergur has focused on Faroese literature in a Nordic context and participated in networks on for instance modernism in the Nordic region and language contact in literary texts. His Ph.D. was on travel writings, and over the past couple of years, he has particularly focused his research on travel writings connected to the Far North/Arctic as well as - and more generally - interdisciplinary ecocritical theory in the context of developments in comtemporary Faroese and Nordic literature. Since 2023 he has led the UArctic Network on Arctic Cultures and History (ARCH).
Teaching
Courses on BA-level in literary anlysis and method and in literary history. Different reserach-based courses on MA-level in travel literature, modernist poetry and ecocriticism. Supervision of BA-, MA- and PhD-theses in literature.
