Havstovan granskar føroyska havumhvørvið og tað, sum í tí livir, ráðgevur myndugleikunum um burðardygga gagnnýtslu av fiskastovnum, savnar hagtøl frá kanningum gjørdar í samstarvi við vinnuna ella umborð á rannsóknarskipi, luttekur í altjóða samstarvi, m.a. í ICES og kunnar um granskingarúrslit.

The Faroe Marine Research Institute carries out research on the Faroese marine environment and its living organisms, advises authorities on sustainable utilization of fish stocks, collects statistics from studies performed in collaboration with the industry or on research vessels, participates in international collaboration such as within ICES, and disseminates research results.
