Description
Organising and participating in the panel: Gender and Military Professionalism.The military has historically been a domain associated with men and masculinity. But in a time when the nature of the work is changing, where military professionalism is also about, for example, administrative and communicative skills, and where the Armed Forces are experiencing greater pressure from the surrounding society to live up to ideals of equality, diversity and inclusion, this roundtable focuses on interlinkages between gender and professionalism in a modern military context. We want, among other things, to address questions such as: How uniform can and should soldiers be? How does a modern military institution work towards greater inclusion and diversity? Is the military ready to embrace the concept of intersectionality?
