Description
In line with increasing internationalisation and the ability to attract talent from all over the world, the universities face new opportunities but also linguistic and cultural challenges for both students and employees. Based on recent language initiatives and case practices we will debate what we can (and should) do to navigate through the issues of parallel language use and the linguistic landscape of both smaller and larger universities. We discuss the political, practical, strategic and cultural aspects of language use and language ideologies at the universities (e.g. with regards to minority languages), and how to uphold a local responsibility while still retaining talent and coping in multilingual work and study environments.Period | 11 May 2023 |
