'I often ponder over what the elders in the family told us…' Children, place and local knowledge in the Faroe Islands

Activity: Talk or presentationOral presentation

Description

In this paper, we will discuss and analyse intergenerational transmission of knowledge, shifting local identities and everyday life in the Faroe Islands with focus on the town of Gøta. Based on three-generations narrative interviews conducted in 2017, we will explore young people’s reflections on and relation to the grandparents’ generation. The aim of the paper is also to look closer at the dynamic interplay between the past and the present, at continuity and discontinuity, in a coastal community with an interesting history and a bright look at the future.
