Description
I was invited to be a visiting researcher at the University of Helsinki's Center for Research on Activity, Development and Learning, directed by Professor Yrjö Engeström.The visit was arranged on the suggestion of Heli Kaatrakoski, who at that time was completing a PhD using activity theory to analyse how customers were conceptualised in the Finish public sector. Heli completed her PhD in 2017, and I was one of those involved in the preliminary assessment of the thesis, prior to it being approved for public defence.
During the visit, I presented a paper to the staff and students of CRADLE, entitled " Language, Ideology and Social Change: Taking forward the CHAT tradition with Critical Discourse Analysis?".
